What is a legacy ghostwriter?

A legacy ghostwriter writes or edits self-published memoirs for authors who
want to capture their story for family, friends, and associates—
for the people who know and care about them.

certified ghostwriter

Hi! I’m

maureen landeR,

a Certified Ghostwriter who has specialized in legacy memoirs since 2007.
I work with authors who want someone to ghostwrite their memoir, or
professional help with their already-written memoir, or guidance through the writing/printing process.

Turning your story into a book is no easy task. There’s the defining practicalities such as where to start and what to leave out. There’s the immense demands of your time and energy, and the required command of language and usage. But paramount to all, there’s the sincere desire to make your book interesting and impactful. These challenges may have left you overwhelmed and frustrated, or too intimidated to even try.

I’d like to help.

My official title is ghostwriter, but what I really do is help people like you move
your story, almost effortlessly, from inside your head and onto the page.

how to write a memoir

About that word “legacy.” A legacy memoir is different than a memoir published for public consumption, and that difference is the reader. When the reader already knows and cares about the author, the creative process is less about the writing and more about the capturing. The reader wants to hear the voice, learn the stories, get to know the person behind the telling. That calls for a highly specialized ghostwriting skill set that accounts for personal connections and familial sensitivities.

That difference also makes the relationship between a legacy author and their ghostwriter uniquely special, as expressed by some of my former client authors:

Kind Words From Client Authors

Maureen perfectly captured what I was hoping to say and wrote it beautifully. I marvel at how she asked the right questions and then deftly turned everything into a book that's been enjoyed by many. I highly recommend that if you've been thinking about writing a book, just DO IT! You'll be glad you did. Herb Bridge, co-CEO Ben Bridge Jeweler, ‘Building Bridges’

My father didn't want to write his book because he thought to do that would be bragging. I was surprised that once he started talking, he couldn't stop, and that was because of Maureen. She was sensitive and knew just what to ask. He was sorry when the project was over. Maureen was exactly the right person for the job.
-George Avila, son of author of ‘Going North’

I love it when people say to me that they couldn’t put my book down. I wanted to write about my crazy travels through South America in 1974 but after years of trying never really got anywhere. Then a friend suggested I try Maureen, and I’m glad I did. She made me remember things I haven’t thought about in years. She got the book done in a few months and I love it.
-Rick Keller, business owner, ‘Travel Till It Hurts’

"Maureen is the consummate professional who can make anyone or anything seem interesting. In a matter of months she turned my odd collection of writings and stories into a professional-grade book. I appreciated her excellent writing, but even more her energy and enthusiasm for my book. Working with her was a delight.
